Below, you can find out all about the local context of this borough's architecture, areas undergoing change and projects under construction.

Wandsworth Council works to regenerate key areas of the borough through private investment. ‘Wandsowrth 2018’ is a vision whereby the above can happen; it looks ahead to a borough of the future.

Since 2004 Wandsworth Council has worked to improve and regenerate Roehampton. The project has been focused on five main sites; the Recreation Centre. Boys Club, The Co-op block, Danebury Avenue Shops, and the Allbrook House/Library. As a result of consultation with local residents the first of these sites has been further expanded and refurbished, re-opening as the Roehampton Sport and Fitness Centre in 2008.

A current regeneration site is Nine Elms where the council are working with developers and landowners to create thousands of new homes and jobs on industrial sites. Nine Elms has recently been selected by the US Government for the site of its new embassy and of which the final design is now complete. The Battersea Power Station is also to undergo a £5.5bn regeneration. The area of Nine Elms is 450 acres that stretches from Vauxhall in the east to the power station in the west making it larger than Canary Wharf. Over the next few years Nine Elms will become London’s largest and most centrally located regeneration project. The site will be more than just new homes and new jobs it will become a new thriving community.

At the heart of the borough Wandsworth Town Centre will receive approximately £1bn of investment with just under half going towards vital traffic improvements. The improvement scheme provides loans and grants to businesses for refurbishment and improvement of their premises. As well as Wandsworth the overall Town Centre Improvement Scheme focuses on the four other town centres of Balham, Clapham Junction, Putney and Tooting. The scheme is designed to make a difference to the business as well as adding value to the property and thus improving the local area.
