Science and architecture
Thanks to our partnership with the Royal Society in this their 350th anniversary year, you’ve an opportunity to discover science through architecture. We are showcasing science-related buildings from headquarters of great societies to working laboratories, such as Queen Mary College Institute of Cell & Molecular Science, Royal College of Physicians, The Royal Observatory's Altazimuth Pavilion, and of course The Royal Society itself! Panel disussion at the Royal Society: Sustainable cities – an issue for the experts?
Part of the challenge in being green is how specialists, such as scientists, engineers and architects, can work with one another and with the wider community to design cities that are environmentally and socially sustainable. The Open House and Royal Society panel discussion “Our buildings, our neighbourhoods, our cities?” on Mon 13 Sept will explore this issue. Alok Jha of the Guardian will be joined by Professor Alan Penn of the Bartlett School of Graduate Studies, Professor Jeremy Watson of Arup, Anna Coote of New Economics Foundation, Rab Bennetts of Bennetts Associates and Dr Janet Barlow of Reading University.
